Chandigarh: Punjab BJP Working President Ashwani Sharma expressed gratitude to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for sending 1,000 quintals of wheat seed to farmers affected by recent floods in Punjab. Sharma described the move as a humane and timely gesture, highlighting inter-state cooperation in supporting disaster-hit communities.
The consignment consists of high-quality BB-327 (Karan Shivani) wheat seeds, which are bio-fortified, disease-resistant, and mature in approximately 155 days, with a yield potential of up to 80 quintals per hectare. Sharma stated that the seeds will be distributed free of cost to eligible flood-affected farmers, helping them restart sowing and restore livelihoods ahead of the rabi season.
According to Sharma, the initiative follows representations from farmers regarding seed shortages and crop losses due to inundated fields. He said the prompt response sets a benchmark for compassionate governance and reflects the Centre’s commitment to assist citizens in times of calamity.
Sharma emphasized that the aid conveys a broader message of solidarity, reinforcing the shared responsibility to protect farm incomes and ensure food security. He concluded that coordinated efforts—including timely delivery, quality inputs, and targeted outreach—are essential for helping farmers recover quickly and return to sustainable productivity.
