New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday welcomed the interim trade agreement reached between India and the United States, saying it would reinforce the ‘Make in India’ programme by unlocking fresh opportunities for key sectors and generating employment, particularly for women and young people.

In a message shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed appreciation for US President Donald Trump, acknowledging his “personal commitment” to strengthening relations between the two countries. Modi described the agreement as a positive step for both nations, underlining the growing confidence and cooperation that define the bilateral partnership.

Calling the development “great news for India and the USA,” Modi said the proposed framework signals the increasing depth and trust in the strategic relationship. He noted that the arrangement is designed to expand trade engagement while resolving long-standing market access and regulatory concerns.

According to the government, the interim framework is expected to provide momentum to India’s manufacturing push by improving access to the American market. Sectors such as agriculture, small businesses, startups and fisheries are likely to benefit, alongside micro, small and medium enterprises that form the backbone of the domestic economy.

Modi also highlighted the agreement’s potential to stimulate job creation and promote innovation. He said closer trade and investment ties with the US would help strengthen technology partnerships and build resilient supply chains, contributing to broader global growth.

“As India advances towards the goal of a developed nation, we remain committed to future-focused global partnerships that empower our people and create shared prosperity,” the Prime Minister said, signalling New Delhi’s intent to deepen economic engagement with Washington in the years ahead.
