Kuala Lumpur/New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate virtually in the upcoming 47th ASEAN Summit, scheduled to take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, later this month, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim confirmed on Thursday.

In a post on X, Anwar Ibrahim said he had a phone conversation with “one of Modi’s colleagues” to discuss efforts to deepen Malaysia–India bilateral ties. “Last night, I received a phone call from a colleague of the Prime Minister of the Republic of India, Narendra Modi, to discuss efforts to strengthen Malaysia–India bilateral relations to a more strategic and comprehensive level,” Anwar wrote.

He noted that India remains an important partner for Malaysia in areas such as trade, investment, technology, education, and regional security. “We also touched on the organisation of the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur at the end of this month. He informed me that he will attend virtually due to the ongoing Deepavali celebrations in India at that time,” Anwar said.

The Malaysian Prime Minister also extended festive greetings to Modi and the people of India on the occasion of Deepavali. He reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening both Malaysia–India relations and ASEAN–India cooperation, with a focus on fostering “a more peaceful and prosperous region.”
