Howrah: A junior female doctor at Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay Medical College and Hospital in Uluberia, Howrah district, was allegedly assaulted and threatened with rape by a traffic home guard and his neighbour, police said. Both accused have been arrested.

The incident occurred on Monday when a pregnant woman from Kharia Maynapur was admitted to the hospital. During a routine check-up, the doctor was unable to perform a full examination due to the patient’s medical complications. Following this, the home guard and another individual questioned her about the patient’s condition, leading to an argument.

According to the police, during the altercation, the doctor was slapped, her arm twisted, verbally abused, and allegedly threatened with rape, with warnings not to leave the hospital premises.

The ward master immediately informed the hospital police outpost, prompting officers to rush to the scene. The doctor then filed a formal complaint at Uluberia police station. Acting on her complaint, the police detained the traffic home guard and his neighbour, who were later arrested.

Authorities are now reviewing CCTV footage from the hospital and recording statements from witnesses present during the incident.
