Mumbai: A major security scare unfolded early Saturday after the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad received an email claiming that a “human bomb” was onboard an IndiGo flight arriving from Jeddah. The aircraft was immediately diverted to Mumbai, where it landed safely, officials said.
According to police, the airport authorities received the threat email around 5:30 am, warning them not to allow the IndiGo flight to land in Hyderabad. The message allegedly mentioned that “LTTE-ISI operatives” were planning a “1984 Madras Airport-style blast.”
Following standard security protocols, all stakeholders were alerted, and the flight 6E 68 was rerouted to Mumbai. The plane underwent thorough security checks upon landing, and authorities confirmed that no suspicious items or threats were found.
Police have registered a case based on the complaint lodged by the airport authorities. An investigation is underway to trace the source of the email and verify the authenticity of the threat.
In a statement, an IndiGo spokesperson confirmed the incident, saying, “A security threat was received for IndiGo flight 6E 68 operating from Jeddah to Hyderabad on November 1, and the aircraft was diverted to Mumbai. Following established protocol, we immediately informed the authorities and fully cooperated in the security checks.”
The airline said it worked to minimise inconvenience for passengers by providing refreshments and regular updates while the checks were in progress. After clearance from security officials, the flight was declared safe for further operations.
