New Delhi— Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal raised a strong concern in the Winter Session of Parliament on Thursday, pressing the Central government for answers on the rising drug trafficking crisis in Punjab. Citing the latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report, she said Punjab has registered the highest number of drug-related deaths in India, a development she described as deeply alarming and unacceptable.

Badal warned that the situation has worsened to the point where the number of drug peddlers in Punjab now reportedly exceeds the number of users, reflecting a dangerous expansion of the illegal network. She told the House that saving the state’s youth from addiction must be treated as a national duty, not just a regional issue.

Questioning the Centre’s approach, she demanded clarity on what specific actions have been taken to curb trafficking, dismantle drug networks and prevent further loss of lives. She said the NCRB data should serve as a wake-up call, urging the government to respond with immediate and effective measures.

Badal asked the Union government to present a clear timeline and strategy, emphasising that Punjab cannot afford further delay in addressing the escalating drug crisis.
