Kanker: A devastating road accident in Kanker claimed the lives of six members of a family after two cars collided head-on along National Highway 30, officials confirmed on Friday.
The incident took place late Thursday night near Nathia Navagaon village within the jurisdiction of the Kanker Kotwali police station. According to initial findings, a family from Udkuda village in the Charama region was returning home after attending a wedding ceremony when their vehicle crashed into an oncoming car.
The force of the collision left both vehicles completely wrecked, trapping passengers inside. Emergency responders and local police teams rushed to the scene shortly after the accident was reported.
Among those killed were six occupants of one car, including three women, a child, and two men. Another family member in the same vehicle sustained critical injuries. Meanwhile, two individuals traveling in the second car also suffered serious wounds.
Senior police officials, including Superintendent of Police Nikhil Rakhecha, visited the accident site to oversee rescue and relief operations. The injured were promptly shifted to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
Authorities stated that an investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the crash, including whether factors such as speed, visibility, or road conditions played a role.
The tragic incident has cast a shadow over the local community, highlighting once again the dangers of nighttime travel on busy highways.
