Mumbai: A nine-member central government delegation arrived in Maharashtra on Tuesday to evaluate the impact of heavy rains and floods that affected the state in August and September, particularly focusing on crop and infrastructure losses.

The team is scheduled to visit flood-hit districts such as Dharashiv, Solapur, Nashik, and Washim, which reported severe agricultural damage. A senior official from the State Disaster Management Department said, “The central committee has arrived in Mumbai and will carry out field inspections over the next two days to gauge the extent of crop losses in the worst-affected areas.”

The delegation is headed by R.K. Pandey, Joint Secretary in the Internal Security Department of the Union Home Ministry, and includes senior representatives from ministries such as Agriculture, Finance, Rural Development, Road Transport, Water Resources, Energy, and Space, along with officials from ISRO and the Home Ministry. On Tuesday, the team met with state authorities in Mumbai before commencing their field visits.

Maharashtra had announced a relief package of ₹31,628 crore last month for farmers affected by the floods, which damaged crops across more than 6.87 million hectares in 29 districts. The central government has already released ₹1,566.40 crore as interim assistance to support recovery efforts.

The central team’s assessment will help determine the next phase of compensation and rehabilitation measures for the affected farmers and infrastructure.
