Bengaluru— In a heart-wrenching incident, two young brothers — Jaganadhan S (8) and Sanjay S (6) — drowned on Thursday evening while playing near a BBMP-maintained lake in Sir M Vishweshwaraiah Layout. The tragic discovery came hours after the boys went missing, leaving their family and neighbors in deep shock.
According to police reports, the brothers, who studied at a private school in Ullala Upanagar, had skipped their evening tuition and gone to play near the lake. Investigators believe the drowning occurred between 6:30 pm and 7:00 pm, but the tragedy came to light only around 9:00 pm, as reported by The Times of India.
Their father, Subramani, a mason by profession, had dropped them at school earlier that day, while their mother, Mamatha, who works as a helper at a private firm, returned home around 8:15 pm to find them missing. When she learned from the tuition teacher that the boys had been absent for four consecutive days, panic set in. Subramani joined the search, and with the help of one of Jaganadhan’s friends, who revealed that the brothers had been playing near the lake earlier, the parents rushed to the spot.
There, they were devastated to find Jaganadhan’s body floating in the water. He was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital and later referred to Rajarajeshwari Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Local swimmers and relatives helped recover Sanjay’s body soon after, but he too was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the drowning. The incident has once again raised concerns over the safety of lakes and the lack of protective fencing in residential areas.
