New Delhi— An Air India flight operating from San Francisco to Delhi via Kolkata was diverted to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, on Sunday after the flight crew reported a suspected technical issue mid-air.

The Boeing 777 aircraft, operating as flight AI174, made a precautionary landing and touched down safely at the Chinggis Khaan International Airport in Ulaanbaatar. All passengers and crew members are safe, the airline confirmed.

The flight had departed from San Francisco at 2:47 pm IST and was scheduled to land in Delhi at 9:59 pm on Monday. “AI174 of November 2, operating from San Francisco to Delhi via Kolkata, made a precautionary landing at Ulaanbaatar after the flight crew suspected a technical issue en route. The aircraft landed safely and is undergoing the necessary checks,” said an Air India spokesperson.

The airline added that it is working closely with partners to ensure passenger comfort and arrange onward travel. “We regret the inconvenience caused to the passengers due to the unforeseen situation. At Air India, the safety of passengers and crew remains the top priority,” the spokesperson said.

According to officials, engineers have been dispatched to inspect the aircraft, and standard procedures for technical verification are underway. Passengers have been provided with assistance and refreshments at the Ulaanbaatar airport while the checks continue.

Air India has assured that efforts are being made to get all passengers to their destination as soon as possible.
