Palwal: Two people lost their lives in a devastating road accident on the Kundli–Manesar–Palwal (KMP) Expressway in Haryana on Sunday morning after a chain collision involving multiple heavy vehicles led to a massive fire, officials confirmed.

The crash took place in the Tawadu subdivision, close to the Mohammadpur Ahir police station limits, between the villages of Sabras and Gudhi. According to preliminary findings, a vehicle abruptly slowed down on the high-speed corridor, triggering a pile-up of at least five vehicles.

Among those involved were a dump truck carrying gravel and a container truck. The force of the collision caused both heavy vehicles to burst into flames, leaving the driver and cleaner trapped inside. They were killed instantly as the fire engulfed the cabins, with authorities saying the bodies were charred beyond recognition, making immediate identification impossible.

The incident brought traffic on the expressway to a standstill, with long queues of vehicles forming on both sides. Local residents and passersby gathered at the site as emergency services rushed in. Firefighters deployed three fire engines and managed to extinguish the blaze after nearly two hours of effort.

Police said vehicular movement was gradually resumed, and normal traffic flow was restored approximately three hours after the accident.

Eyewitness accounts and statements from truck drivers suggested that two vehicles involved in the initial incident may have sped away before the collision escalated. Investigators believe their sudden manoeuvres may have contributed to the sequence of crashes.

The officer in charge of Mohammadpur Ahir police station said initial inquiries point to sudden braking as the key factor behind the accident. Efforts are ongoing to trace the vehicles that reportedly fled the scene, and further legal action will be taken once formal complaints are lodged.

Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution on high-speed stretches of the expressway, especially during early morning hours when visibility and reaction time can be critical.
