SHIMLA: The spokesperson of Himachal Pradesh Police today informed that under the Anti-Chitta campaign launched by Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the state police is continuously taking strict and effective action to curb drug trafficking and achieve the goal of making Himachal Pradesh a “Chitta-Free State.” As part of the second phase of the campaign, a special 24-hour Inter-State and Inter-District Naka drive was conducted across the state on March 9, 2026, based on intelligence inputs and coordinated efforts among different districts.

During the special operation, teams of District Police, STF and Police Battalions jointly set up nakas at 176 identified locations across the state. In total, 20,230 vehicles were thoroughly checked to ensure strict vigilance and security. As a result of the intensive checking, five cases were registered under the NDPS Act and eight accused persons were arrested. Police also recovered 1.221 kilograms of charas and 7 grams of chitta (heroin) during the drive.

Apart from action against drug-related offences, police also took action against traffic violations by issuing 866 challans under the Motor Vehicles Act and 12 challans under the COTPA Act. Blood and urine samples of 21 suspected individuals were also collected as per legal procedures for scientific examination. The spokesperson said the campaign aims to prevent youth from falling into the trap of drugs and eliminate group-based drug activities in secluded areas. Citizens have been urged to report any information related to drug trafficking by dialing 112 or informing the nearest police station, assuring that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
