CHANDIGARH: Harpal Singh Cheema chaired a high-level review meeting of the Transport Department to address issues related to the issuance of Registration Certificates (RCs) and Driving Licences. The meeting, attended by senior officials including Secretary Transport Varun Roojam and State Transport Commissioner Parneet Shergill, focused on streamlining public services and clearing pending applications. The minister directed अधिकारियों to expedite approvals and verification processes, taking strict cognisance of delays and instructing that all backlogs be cleared at the earliest.

Reiterating the commitment of the government led by Bhagwant Singh Mann, Cheema emphasised time-bound service delivery and ordered close monitoring of applications pending beyond prescribed timelines. He also highlighted that the department is compiling detailed data on pending cases along with reasons for delays to ensure accountability and faster disposal. Special attention was given to clearing the backlog in the printing of RCs and driving licences at the centralised printing branch.

The minister further reviewed the progress of faceless and contactless services for driving licences, directing officials to track and dispose of such applications promptly. Discussions were also held on enhancing road safety through better deployment and monitoring of highway traffic cameras. Additionally, the government is working towards optimising public transport schedules by reviewing existing routes and addressing gaps to improve efficiency, reliability and accessibility of transport services across Punjab.
