Chandigarh: Punjab’s sustained efforts in energy conservation and renewable energy have earned national recognition, as President Droupadi Murmu honored the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) with the prestigious State Performance Award – Group 3 at the National Energy Conservation Awards 2025. The award reflects the farsighted policies of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the state government’s commitment to sustainable development. The ceremony, held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, was attended by senior officials from across the country.
Punjab’s Energy Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO dedicated the award to the people of Punjab and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, stating that the recognition is the result of the Aam Aadmi Party government’s transparent and people-centric governance. He highlighted key initiatives such as curbing electricity theft, improving power sector transparency, and promoting renewable energy. The award was received on behalf of PEDA by its Director General, marking a proud moment for the state.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann expressed happiness over the achievement, calling it a testament to the hard work of the PEDA team and the people of Punjab. He said the government’s goal is to make Punjab self-reliant in the energy sector and a model of sustainable growth. Over the past three years, the state has rapidly expanded solar energy projects, provided solar pumps to farmers, improved power quality, and largely eliminated load shedding.
PEDA has also carried out extensive awareness campaigns on energy conservation, including energy audits in institutions, promotion of LED lighting, and expansion of rooftop solar schemes. Experts believe these policies have improved Punjab’s investment climate and employment opportunities. With continued focus on green energy, smart meters, and power sector reforms, Punjab is now emerging as a role model for other states and is steadily moving towards a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.
