SANGRUR, April 2, 2026: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Thursday inaugurated the Sant Attar Singh Ji Maharaj Hospital in Cheema village, marking a major step towards strengthening healthcare infrastructure in rural areas.
The modern 30-bed hospital, built at a cost of ₹11.70 crore, is expected to benefit around 50,000 people from 15 villages. It will also improve access to affordable and quality healthcare for nearly 35,000–40,000 residents in nearby areas.
Modern Facility to Provide Local Treatment
During his visit, CM Mann interacted with patients and their families and reviewed the hospital facilities. He said that earlier, due to lack of proper medical facilities, patients had to travel to cities like Sangrur, Patiala, and Ludhiana for treatment.
Now, with this new hospital equipped with modern machines, emergency services, and dedicated mother and child care wards, patients will be able to receive treatment closer to home.
The Chief Minister also announced that work on a medical college named after Sant Baba Attar Singh will begin soon. He said the aim is to promote medical education and ensure better healthcare services in the region.
Expansion from 10 to 30 Beds
CM Mann said that the hospital was first established in 1975 with only 10 beds, later increased to 20 beds, and now expanded to 30 beds.
“This center will be a major support for people in the area. Emergency services and surgeries will be available here, which will help patients get timely treatment,” he said.
He added that accident victims and seriously ill patients will now receive immediate care at the facility.
Wide Range of Medical Services
The hospital will provide several important services, including pediatric care, ENT treatment, and dental services. It will also offer free maternal and child healthcare services.
Facilities like X-ray and blood tests will be available, along with treatment for patients seeking de-addiction services.
Focus on Drug-Free Punjab
Speaking on the issue of drug abuse, CM Mann rejected the idea of legalising drugs. He said that one drug cannot replace another and stressed the need to guide youth towards positive activities.
He highlighted that the government’s “Yudh Nashean Virudh” campaign has weakened the drug network in the state. According to him, drug smugglers have been arrested, supply chains broken, and properties confiscated.
He also announced that the government will soon honour people who provide important information against drug traffickers.
Government Highlights Development Work
CM Mann said that the Punjab government has brought major changes across sectors like healthcare, education, and infrastructure.
He said that public money is being used for public welfare, including building schools, hospitals, and roads. He also highlighted that 90% of households are getting free electricity and over 65,000 youth have been given jobs without corruption.
He added that several toll plazas have been closed, saving around ₹70 lakh daily for the public, while infrastructure development is ongoing across the state.
Cabinet Minister and local MLA Aman Arora and Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh were also present at the event.
