Chandigarh, 4 February 2026: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab has strongly criticised the Modi Government over an alleged secret trade deal with the United States, claiming that the agreement could seriously damage Indian farmers and the agriculture economy.
Speaking at a press conference in Chandigarh, AAP Punjab Chief Spokesperson Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal said it is deeply concerning that the Prime Minister has not shared details of the deal in Parliament. Instead, information is reportedly coming from social media posts by former US President Donald Trump.
Dhaliwal questioned why such an important decision, which affects the lives of over 80 crore people, is being kept hidden. He said the country has the right to know what terms have been agreed upon and why the government is silent.
According to AAP, the deal may allow American agricultural products to enter India at zero or very low tax, which could flood Indian markets with cheap imports. Dhaliwal warned that this would make it impossible for Indian farmers to compete and could lead to massive losses.
“This is not a trade agreement, this is surrender,” he said, adding that the government is trying to bring back the controversial farm laws through the back door.
Dhaliwal also raised concerns about the health risks of chemical-heavy imported food products. He further warned that India might be pressured to stop buying oil from Russia and instead purchase costlier oil from the US, which could cause fuel prices to rise and increase overall inflation.
The AAP leader also targeted BJP leaders in Punjab for remaining silent on the issue. He asked how Punjab’s farmers would survive if American wheat, maize, soybean, cotton, dairy, fish and meat products enter India in large quantities at cheap prices.
“Punjab is a farming state. If this deal is implemented, our farmers will be destroyed,” Dhaliwal said.
He demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi immediately place the full details of the agreement in the Lok Sabha and make everything public.
Dhaliwal said that AAP will stand with farmers and oppose this deal both inside Parliament and on the streets until it is cancelled. He added that Punjab is the backbone of India’s agriculture, and the party will not allow any policy that harms farmers and the nation.
