Moga, Punjab | March 19, 2026 : In a striking example of inclusive healthcare in action, a 98-year-old woman from Moga district in Punjab has received complete cashless cancer treatment under the state government’s flagship Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna — making her one of the oldest known beneficiaries of the scheme.
Mukhtiar Kaur, a resident of Moga, underwent specialised cancer care including chemotherapy-related medication and supportive therapy — entirely covered through her Sehat Card, without any out-of-pocket expense for her family.
Treatment Without Financial Delay
At an age where continuous and timely medical intervention is critical, the availability of cashless coverage ensured that Mukhtiar Kaur’s treatment began without delay. With her Sehat Card verified at the empanelled hospital, doctors were able to initiate the chemotherapy regimen immediately, free from administrative or financial hurdles.
The treatment involved advanced medication protocols and close medical monitoring — procedures that would otherwise impose a heavy financial burden on most families, particularly those supporting elderly members through repeated hospital visits and long-term care.
Punjab Government’s Vision of Dignified Healthcare
The Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, introduced under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, was designed to ensure that no citizen in Punjab — regardless of age, income, or medical condition — is denied quality healthcare due to financial constraints.
Commenting on the case, Dr. Balbir Singh, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Punjab, said:
“Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna is ensuring that elderly patients across Punjab receive timely and necessary medical care without financial hardship, while preserving their dignity. Access to treatment at this stage of life is critical, and the scheme is empowering families to provide that care with confidence.”
Scheme Coverage and Reach:
The Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna provides:
- Up to ₹10 lakh cashless health coverage per family, per year
- Access to treatment at over 900 empanelled government and private hospitals across Punjab
- Coverage under 2,300+ medical packages spanning a wide spectrum of procedures and specialities
To date, more than 9 lakh Sehat Cards have been issued across the state, with the Punjab Government actively encouraging residents to enroll at designated registration centres.
Why This Case Matters
Mukhtiar Kaur’s case highlights a gap that the scheme is directly addressing — the vulnerability of elderly patients who require sustained, specialised care but are often among the most financially constrained. For families in this situation, the Sehat Card removes the agonising trade-off between affordability and treatment quality.
Her case also underscores the E-E-A-T principle of real-world impact: this is not a theoretical policy benefit, but a lived experience of dignified care for one of Punjab’s most senior citizens.
How to Enroll in Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna
Punjab residents who have not yet enrolled can obtain their Sehat Card at designated government centres across the state. The card is valid at all empanelled hospitals and can be used for a wide range of medical procedures without any upfront payment.
