SHIMLA: A group of journalists from Odisha, currently visiting Himachal Pradesh as part of a programme organised by the Press Information Bureau, met Governor Kavinder Gupta at Lok Bhavan today. The journalists shared their experiences of the state and discussed its rich culture and traditions. They are on a ten-day tour and will visit places in Shimla, Kullu and Manali.
While speaking with them, the Governor said that such exchange programmes reflect the vision of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that India has many different languages and cultures, but unity is what makes the country strong and beautiful. He added that similar cultural exchange efforts were also encouraged during his time in Ladakh. He said that while colonial rule tried to divide the country, this vision has helped strengthen unity and national integration.
Talking about development, the Governor said that Himachal Pradesh is making fast progress, with major projects like the Atal Tunnel. He said that similar development is taking place in Jammu and Kashmir, with better roads, tunnels, air and rail connectivity. He said that improved infrastructure helps connect remote and border areas and supports the country’s growth.
Speaking about his priorities, the Governor said that more focus should be given to promoting local products to support the rural economy. He encouraged the cultivation of medicinal plants and supported efforts like drug de-addiction and natural farming. He also stressed the importance of linking tourism with sports, especially winter sports and providing skill development opportunities for young people.
Gupta said that industries should remain active and sustainable and said he believes in interacting with people from all sections of society to work together for the state’s development. Earlier, Assistant Director of the Press Information Bureau in Himachal Pradesh, Sanjeev Sharma thanked the Governor and honoured him on the occasion. The delegation also visited Lok Bhavan and appreciated the work being done to maintain and preserve the historic building. Secretary to the Governor, C.P. Verma, was also present on the occasion.
