Mumbai: Comedian Samay Raina has revisited the controversy surrounding the show India’s Got Latent through humour in his latest stand-up special, offering fresh insight into the incident that sparked widespread backlash.
In Samay Raina Still Alive, the comedian revealed that content creator Ranveer Allahbadia—popularly known as BeerBiceps—had repeated the now-controversial question multiple times during filming. According to Raina, the remark, which later triggered outrage online, was asked as many as eight times before the final cut.
Using his trademark comedic style, Raina explained that he chose to retain just one instance of the question while removing the rest during editing. He joked that from his perspective, most of the “problematic content” had already been filtered out before the episode aired.
The special, which is gaining traction on social media, blends humour with candid reflections. Raina also spoke about the fallout from the controversy, including the emotional toll it took as members of the show’s team faced online abuse, threats, and legal scrutiny. He shared that his family, too, was deeply concerned during the period.
The controversy dates back to 2025, when Allahbadia posed a question during the show that many viewers found inappropriate. While the panel, which included influencers like Ashish Chanchlani and Apoorva Mukhija, initially laughed it off, the clip soon went viral, drawing sharp criticism across platforms.
The backlash escalated into formal complaints and multiple FIRs, prompting intervention from the National Commission for Women. Allahbadia later issued a written apology, while the Supreme Court of India granted him interim relief but also criticised the nature of his remarks.
Raina’s latest special appears to mark his first detailed public response to the episode, using satire to revisit a controversy that had significant repercussions for those involved.
