New Delhi: Police in the national capital have arrested two individuals accused of killing a businessman in outer north Delhi after a brief exchange of fire in the city’s Rohini area, officials said on Tuesday.
The suspects, identified as Mohammad Irfan and Aishwarya Pandey, were taken into custody during an operation carried out in Rohini Sector 34. According to officers, the police team intercepted the duo after receiving specific intelligence about their movement in the area.
Authorities said the suspects allegedly opened fire when the police attempted to stop them, leading to a short gunfight before they were overpowered and arrested.
Both individuals had been on the run for nearly a month in connection with the killing of a trader in Bawana, located in outer north Delhi. Investigators believe the accused were directly involved in the murder, which had triggered a search operation across several parts of the city.
Officials added that the arrests came after continuous tracking and surveillance by police teams working on the case.
Further investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the killing and whether others were involved in planning the crime. Police said more details are likely to emerge as questioning of the accused continues.
