New Delhi: A 46-year-old director of a non-governmental organisation has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a man to death following a financial disagreement in west Delhi in the early hours of Sunday, police officials said.

Police said they received information around midnight from a hospital that a man admitted with a stab injury had succumbed during treatment. Officers reached the medical facility and identified the deceased as Harish Kandwal, 46, a resident of Uttam Nagar.

An FIR was subsequently registered and an investigation launched. Based on preliminary findings, police arrested Ashim Ali, a resident of Farash Bazar, in connection with the case.

According to a senior officer, Ali is the director of Sai Sadhna Social Welfare Foundation, which was reportedly being operated from his residence.

Initial inquiry indicates that the incident arose out of a monetary dispute between the accused and the victim, who were associated with the NGO. Police said the two men had spent a significant part of the day together before an argument escalated in the Hari Nagar area, leading to the fatal assault.

Further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing, officials said.
