New Delhi: Delhi Police have successfully located and reunited 72 missing individuals in the city’s Southeast district during January, officials said, highlighting continued efforts under Operation Milap to track missing persons and kidnapping cases.
According to district police data, a total of 138 complaints related to missing persons or abduction were registered last month. Of these, 53 involved men and 85 involved women. Through sustained investigation and follow-up, police were able to trace 33 men and 39 women, bringing relief to their families.
The figures also point to a larger trend across the year. In 2025 so far, the Southeast district has recorded 1,691 cases of missing persons or kidnapping, of which 1,200 cases have already been resolved, officials said.
Alongside sharing the data, police issued a warning against the spread of misinformation on social media, particularly posts alleging a sharp rise in cases of missing girls. Authorities said some of these claims were amplified through paid promotions aimed at generating panic for financial benefit.
In a statement posted on X, Delhi Police said investigations revealed that exaggerated narratives were being pushed deliberately online. “Creating fear for monetary gains will not be tolerated. Strict action will be taken against those involved,” the police said.
Officials reiterated that citizens should rely on verified information and cooperate with law enforcement, adding that special teams continue to work round the clock to trace missing persons and ensure their safe return.
