Chandigarh: A shocking incident marred Diwali celebrations in Chandigarh on Monday morning after a woman was brutally murdered, allegedly by her own son. The victim, identified as 62-year-old Sushila Negi, a resident of Sector 40, was found with her throat slit inside her home.

According to police, neighbors rushed to the spot after hearing the woman’s screams but found the main door locked from inside. When they entered through the terrace, they discovered Negi lying in a pool of blood while the accused had fled.

The accused, identified as Ravi Negi, who works at Panjab University, was reportedly mentally disturbed. Police said he escaped from the scene before they arrived but was later arrested from Sonipat.

Investigators have collected forensic evidence from the house. Initial findings suggest the crime was committed using a kitchen knife. The motive behind the murder is still under investigation.

Sushila Negi, originally from Barsou Bhatauli village in Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, had been living in Chandigarh for several years. Her son Ravi had moved back in with her six months ago after separating from his wife and daughter, who live elsewhere.
