Uttarkashi/Dehradun: Following the recent cloudburst and flash floods that triggered chaos in parts of Uttarkashi, the Uttarakhand government has successfully evacuated 274 people who were stranded near Gangotri and adjoining areas.

The state administration confirmed that everyone is safe, and efforts are now underway to bring them to Dehradun for further support and assistance.

The evacuees include a wide group of pilgrims and tourists from across India:

  • 131 individuals from Gujarat

  • 123 from Maharashtra

  • 21 from Madhya Pradesh

  • 12 from Uttar Pradesh

  • 6 from Rajasthan

  • 7 from Delhi

  • 5 each from Assam and Karnataka

  • 3 from Telangana

  • 1 from Punjab

Rescue operations were carried out by local authorities in collaboration with disaster response teams, who worked under challenging weather conditions and difficult terrain to bring the stranded individuals to safety in Harsil.

“Despite the intensity of the flash floods, we’ve been able to bring all stranded people out safely. They are being shifted to Dehradun, and necessary medical checks and arrangements are being made,” a state official said.

Several regions in the higher Himalayas, including parts of the Char Dham Yatra route, faced disruption due to heavy rains and cloudbursts. The administration has advised travelers to avoid unnecessary movement in landslide-prone areas until weather conditions stabilize.

The government continues to monitor the situation closely and has assured that adequate arrangements are in place to handle any further emergencies.
