Delhi Government Eases NOC Rules for Old Vehicles, Major Relief for Owners

New Delhi— The Delhi government has announced a major relief for owners of old vehicles by easing the rules for issuing No Objection Certificates (NOC). The Transport Department will now allow the issuance of NOCs for diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years without any time restriction. Earlier, such certificates were only granted within one year of the vehicle’s registration expiry.

Under the new rules, owners of these vehicles can obtain an NOC from the Delhi Transport Department and re-register their vehicles in other states such as Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, or Uttarakhand. This change means vehicle owners will no longer be forced to scrap their old cars.

The decision brings significant financial relief to thousands of vehicle owners who were previously incurring losses due to Delhi’s strict pollution control policies banning the operation of older vehicles. Now, instead of discarding them, owners can sell or transfer their vehicles to other states, helping preserve their market value.

However, the Delhi government clarified that the ban on old vehicles within the city limits remains in effect, as the policy is a critical part of the capital’s pollution control strategy. The move, officials said, strikes a balance between environmental concerns and citizens’ economic interests.
