King Charles Strips Prince Andrew of Titles, Orders Him to Leave Windsor Residence Amid Epstein Fallout

London— In a landmark royal decision, Britain’s King Charles has formally begun proceedings to strip his younger brother, Prince Andrew, of his royal titles and ordered him to vacate his Windsor residence. Buckingham Palace confirmed the move on Thursday, citing “serious lapses of judgment” by the Duke of York amid renewed scrutiny over his ties to late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The announcement follows the release of Virginia Giuffre’s posthumous memoir “Nobody’s Girl”. Giuffre, who died by suicide in April at age 41, had accused Prince Andrew of sexually assaulting her as a teenager — allegations he has consistently denied.

In an official statement, Buckingham Palace said, “His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew.” The statement added that the Duke would now be referred to as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. His lease on the Royal Lodge, which had afforded him certain legal protections, has been terminated, and he will move to alternative private accommodation.

According to CNN, Andrew will relocate to a property on King Charles’s privately owned Sandringham estate, not one belonging to the Crown Estate. The relocation will be privately financed by the King.

Sources indicated that Charles intends to revoke Andrew’s peerages associated with York, Inverness, and Killyleagh through royal warrants, avoiding a parliamentary act. However, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie will retain their titles under the 1917 royal charter by King George V.

The British government was reportedly consulted on the King’s decision and expressed full support. The palace emphasized that the move, though made despite Andrew’s continued denials, was necessary to uphold the integrity of the monarchy. “Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse,” the statement read.

The decision comes amid mounting public outrage over Andrew’s long-standing association with Epstein. Critics have questioned his financial dealings, including a multimillion-dollar settlement paid to Giuffre in 2022 and how he managed to maintain a luxurious lifestyle after stepping down from royal duties in 2019.

Adding to public anger, reports surfaced that Andrew purchased his Royal Lodge mansion for just $1 million in 2003 and continued living there at a nominal rent. Earlier this month, he reportedly offered to relinquish his titles voluntarily, but the gesture failed to appease growing calls for accountability.

During a recent public engagement in northwest England, King Charles was confronted by a protester shouting, “How long have you known about Andrew and Epstein?”—a moment that underscored the controversy’s continued impact on the royal family.

In a statement, Giuffre’s family expressed relief over the King’s action: “Our sister, a child when she was sexually assaulted by Andrew, never stopped fighting for accountability. Today, she declares victory.” They added, “We will not rest until every abuser and enabler connected to Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell is held accountable.”
