Chandigarh: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Monday arrested Jatinder Singh, a security guard posted at the Civil Hospital in Baba Bakala Sahib, Amritsar district, red-handed while accepting a ₹15,000 bribe, officials said.
According to a spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau, the accused was caught based on a complaint filed by Resham Singh, who alleged that Jatinder Singh had demanded a bribe of ₹15,000 in exchange for facilitating the issuance of a negative dope test certificate required for an arms licence.
Following a preliminary inquiry, a VB Flying Squad team laid a trap and apprehended the accused while receiving the bribe in the presence of two government witnesses.
A case under Section 7-A of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the VB Flying Squad Police Station, Mohali.
Officials said that interrogation of the arrested guard is currently underway to determine the involvement of other individuals in the bribery scheme. The accused will be produced before the competent court on Tuesday, and further investigation is ongoing, the spokesperson added.
