Chandigarh: Punjab’s Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister, Dr. Baljit Kaur, announced that the state government has disbursed ₹2,400.70 crore so far under the Old Age Pension Scheme during the current financial year.
According to Dr. Kaur, more than 23 lakh beneficiaries have received financial assistance through the initiative. She added that a total budget of ₹4,100 crore has been earmarked for the scheme this year to ensure timely pension payments for all eligible senior citizens.
Highlighting the government’s commitment, Dr. Kaur said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the state remains dedicated to upholding the dignity and welfare of its elderly population. She noted that the pension program is not just financial aid but a reflection of the government’s respect and responsibility towards senior citizens.
Reiterating her department’s mission, Dr. Kaur directed officials to ensure that every eligible beneficiary receives their pension without delay. “Our elders are our pride,” she said, stressing the importance of transparent and efficient delivery of welfare benefits to all deserving individuals.
