Indore: Two Australian women cricketers participating in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup were allegedly stalked, and one of them was molested by a motorcycle-borne man in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, police said on Saturday.

The shocking incident occurred on Thursday morning in the Khajrana Road area. According to Sub-Inspector Nidhi Raghuvanshi, the players had stepped out of their hotel and were walking toward a nearby café when a man began following them. The accused allegedly touched one of the players inappropriately before fleeing the scene on his motorcycle.

The cricketers immediately informed their team’s security officer, Danny Simmons, who contacted local security liaison officials and dispatched a vehicle to assist them. Following the report, Assistant Commissioner of Police Himani Mishra met the players, recorded their statements, and registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Sections 74 (use of criminal force to outrage a woman’s modesty) and 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the MIG police station.q

Police said a bystander had noted the motorcycle’s registration number, which helped them identify and arrest the accused, Akil Khan, on Friday. “Khan has a criminal history, and further investigation is underway,” the officer added.

The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of international athletes visiting India for the ongoing World Cup.
