Mysuru: In a heartbreaking incident, two young sisters lost their lives on Saturday morning after inhaling leaked gas from a geyser installed in their home bathroom, police officials confirmed.

The deceased have been identified as Gulfam (23) and Simran Taj (20), both residents of Mysuru city. According to preliminary reports, the tragedy unfolded when the sisters went to take a bath and failed to return for an unusually long time. Family members, sensing something was wrong, broke open the bathroom door and found both of them unconscious.

They were rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead.

Police investigations revealed that the gas geyser had leaked LPG into the closed bathroom, causing the sisters to suffocate. Fortunately, the gas did not ignite, preventing a potential explosion.

“The geyser appears to have emitted gas due to a leakage in the pipe connection. The victims seem to have collapsed after inhaling the fumes in an enclosed space,” a police officer from the jurisdictional station said.

Authorities have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination, and forensic experts are examining the geyser and gas cylinder to determine the exact cause of the leak.

Officers have also issued a reminder to residents about the risks of using gas geysers in poorly ventilated bathrooms, urging people to ensure proper airflow and regular maintenance of such appliances.

The sudden deaths of Gulfam and Simran Taj have left the local community in deep shock, with neighbors describing them as cheerful and hardworking young women.

Police have registered a case of unnatural death and further investigation is underway.
