Gurugram— In a shocking incident, a 31-year-old man allegedly shot his female friend after she rejected his marriage proposal and cut off contact with him. The accused, identified as Vipin, was caught inside the building after the auto-locking door of the paying guest (PG) accommodation trapped him following the shooting.

The victim, 30-year-old Shivangi, was rushed to Civil Hospital in Sector 10A with a bullet injury to her shoulder. She is currently in stable condition, police officials said.

According to Udyog Vihar SHO Vinod Kumar, Vipin and Shivangi had known each other for about two years. “He wanted to marry her. Upset over being ignored, he confronted her on Thursday morning, which led to an argument during which he allegedly fired at her,” Kumar told the Times of India.

Police investigations revealed that Vipin had waited outside the PG at the usual time Shivangi left for work. He reportedly entered the building when a milkman exited and the auto-locking main door hadn’t yet closed. Moments later, he shot Shivangi in the corridor outside her first-floor room.

After the incident, Vipin tried to flee but was trapped inside as he did not have the RFID card needed to open the door. Police reached the spot soon after and arrested him.

Shivangi, originally from Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, works for a garment export firm in Gurugram, while Vipin, a Jaunpur native, is employed as a chauffeur at a private company. Both resided in the same Dundahera locality.

According to the police, Shivangi had ended contact with Vipin about two weeks ago after he began pressuring her to marry him. The victim later told reporters that the accused had “misunderstood their friendship,” insisting that she had only spoken to him normally.

Shivangi recounted that she was wearing her shoes in the corridor when Vipin appeared on the stairs, blocked her way, and demanded to enter her room. When she refused, he threatened to kill her before firing a shot that struck her shoulder, leaving her bleeding on the floor.

Vipin remains in police custody, and an FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act.
