Satara (Maharashtra)— A shocking incident has come to light from Maharashtra’s Satara district, where a woman doctor from a government hospital in Phaltan was found dead in a hotel room late Thursday night. The police said she left behind a suicide note written on her palm, alleging sexual assault and mental harassment by two police officials.

The deceased, originally from Beed district, was discovered hanging inside her hotel room, after which the staff immediately alerted the local police. Officials confirmed that the body was sent for post-mortem examination and that a case has been registered based on the contents of the suicide note.

In her final note, the doctor reportedly accused Sub-Inspector Gopal Badane of repeatedly raping and sexually harassing her over the past five months. She also named another police personnel, Prashant Bankar, for subjecting her to mental torture. Police said a thorough investigation is underway into the claims and circumstances leading to her death.

Taking serious note of the matter, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also holds the Home portfolio, spoke directly to the Satara Superintendent of Police and ordered the immediate suspension of the two officers named in the note. The Chief Minister’s Office stated that Fadnavis had directed authorities to ensure “strict and time-bound action against all those involved.”

Meanwhile, Maharashtra State Commission for Women chairperson Rupali Chakankar said the commission has taken cognisance of the case and directed the Satara police to act swiftly. “We have deployed teams to trace the accused. No one responsible for this tragic incident will be spared,” she said.

Police officials confirmed that forensic samples have been collected and CCTV footage from the area is being examined. Statements from witnesses and hotel staff are also being recorded. Authorities added that the investigation will focus on verifying the allegations in the suicide note and determining the sequence of events that led to the doctor’s death.
