Chandigarh: The court has delivered a crucial verdict in the high-profile ‘Kamal Kaur Bhabhi’ murder case, marking a major step in one of the region’s most sensational criminal investigations. Following an extensive probe and the submission of a detailed chargesheet, the court has framed charges and convicted two accused, formally initiating full trial proceedings.

According to officials, two of the main accused remain absconding, with one believed to have escaped abroad.

During Thursday’s hearing, the court framed charges against Jaspreet Singh and Nimrat Preet Kaur, both of whom appeared before the bench and pleaded not guilty, asserting their intent to contest the allegations through a full-fledged trial.

However, two other prime suspects — Amritpal Singh Mehron and Ranjit Singh — are still on the run. Police sources disclosed that Amritpal Singh fled to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) soon after the murder, while the whereabouts of Ranjit Singh remain untraced.

Investigating officers have also hinted at the possible involvement of a fifth, unidentified person, believed to have aided the perpetrators. Authorities are working to confirm this individual’s role and identity.

With the charges now formally framed, the court will next hear witness statements and review key pieces of evidence in upcoming sessions. Meanwhile, police continue their pursuit of the absconding accused and are coordinating with international agencies to track down the primary suspect in the UAE.
