Patiala: Balwant Singh Rajoana, convicted in the assassination of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, arrived at the Dental Medical College in Patiala on Friday for a routine dental examination. Speaking to the media, Rajoana stressed that the final decision on his fate should come from the Sri Akal Takht Sahib, rather than remaining unresolved for decades.

Balwant Singh Rajoana, who has been on death row for 19 years, highlighted that his sentence has been pending with the central government for 14 years. “We have waited too long. Not making a decision even after 30 years is a grave injustice,” he said, appealing to the Jathedar of the Akal Takht to act with the community’s honor in mind.

He described the dental examination as part of his regular medical routine and emphasized the need for a resolution to his case. Over the past five years, the Supreme Court has repeatedly sought updates regarding his death sentence, while his mercy petition remains pending with the President of India.

Rajoana’s legal team has filed a plea in the Supreme Court, requesting that his death sentence be commuted to life imprisonment, citing the prolonged delay in processing the mercy petition.

The convict reiterated his call for the Akal Takht to make a decision soon, underlining the urgency of concluding a case that has spanned three decades.
