Ballia, Uttar Pradesh: Police have detained seven individuals for questioning following a violent clash over a dog bite in a village under the Dokati police station in Ballia district. The incident left 10 people injured, including four women, according to local authorities.

Incident Details

The altercation occurred on Wednesday night in Dalan Chhapra village when Lal Bahadur Mali, a resident of the village, accidentally stepped on a pet dog while walking in the dark. The dog bit him in response. Upon hearing the barking, the dog’s owner, Sanjeet Mali, along with nine others, reportedly arrived at the scene armed with sticks and attacked Lal Bahadur.

Police said that as Lal Bahadur raised an alarm, his family members and neighbors rushed to intervene but were also assaulted and had stones thrown at them during the confrontation.

Injuries and Hospitalization

Those injured in the clash include Sudhir Mali, Chandravati Devi, Renu Devi, Manish, Shashikant, Kapil, Ramavati Devi, Lal Bahadur, Jitendra, and Sanju. All were admitted to the government hospital in Sonbarsa, with five patients referred to the district hospital for further treatment. Two of the most seriously injured, Sudhir Mali and Chandravati Devi, were later transferred to Varanasi for specialized care.

Police Action

Bairia area Police Circle Officer Mohammad Fahim Qureshi confirmed that an FIR was registered on Thursday against ten individuals under relevant legal sections following a complaint filed by Lal Bahadur Mali. The seven detained are currently being questioned as part of the ongoing investigation.

“The situation escalated quickly after the dog bite, and we are taking all necessary measures to ensure justice and prevent further clashes,” said CO Qureshi.

Authorities are urging locals to maintain peace and allow the police to carry out their investigation, emphasizing that such disputes should not lead to violent confrontations.

The incident highlights tensions in rural areas over minor disputes and has sparked concern about the need for better conflict resolution and community awareness.
