Shimla: In a devastating accident amid heavy rainfall, a car plunged into the Pabbar River in Rohru, Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh late Tuesday night, claiming the lives of three young men and leaving one critically injured.
The incident occurred around midnight near a petrol pump close to Seema Harsukh Resort. According to early reports, the vehicle lost control—likely due to slippery road conditions—and veered off the road, crashing into the fast-flowing river below. The impact was severe, and the car became lodged in the middle of the river.
There were four individuals in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Locals rushed to the scene to assist in rescue efforts and alerted emergency services. Rescue teams managed to pull out all occupants from the waterlogged vehicle. Tragically, three were declared dead on the spot, while the fourth survivor was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The deceased are believed to be residents of Moochhada and Dhak villages, though police have yet to officially confirm their identities. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident, with poor visibility and slippery roads due to persistent rain being suspected factors.
The Pabbar River, swollen by continuous rainfall over the past few days, made rescue operations challenging. Local authorities have urged travelers to exercise extreme caution when navigating hilly and river-adjacent roads during monsoon conditions.
As the region mourns yet another rain-related tragedy, officials continue to monitor weather patterns and road safety in vulnerable areas across Himachal Pradesh.
