New Delhi: A joint operation by the Delhi and Bihar Police ended in a deadly exchange of gunfire in the Rohini area late Tuesday night, resulting in the deaths of four alleged members of the notorious Ranjan Pathak gang.

According to officials, the men had been on the run for several weeks and were wanted in connection with a series of violent crimes in Bihar, including multiple murders and cases of extortion. Acting on intelligence inputs about their presence in Delhi, a coordinated team from both state forces launched a raid to apprehend them.

As officers surrounded the suspected hideout, the gang members reportedly opened fire in an attempt to escape. Police returned fire in self-defence, leading to a brief but intense encounter. All four men sustained gunshot wounds and were immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.

The deceased have been identified as Ranjan Pathak, believed to be the ringleader of the group, along with his close aides Vimlesh Mahto, Manish Pathak, and Aman Thakur — all residents of Bihar.

Senior police officials described Pathak as the mastermind behind a sprawling criminal network that operated across several districts in Bihar and neighbouring states. The gang was allegedly involved in organised crime, extortion rackets, and contract killings.

A senior officer stated that several weapons were recovered from the site, and forensic teams are examining the area. “The operation was based on credible information and conducted as per due procedure. Further investigations are underway to trace other associates of the gang,” the officer said.

The encounter has brought a significant breakthrough for law enforcement agencies in their ongoing crackdown on interstate criminal networks operating from the capital.
