Lalitpur: A 30-year-old woman sustained severe burn injuries after allegedly setting herself on fire following a domestic dispute with her husband in Uttar Pradesh’s Lalitpur district, police said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred on Tuesday evening in Barai village under the Banpur area, officials confirmed.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kalu Singh, the woman, identified as Aarti (30), wife of Sanju Raja, poured a flammable substance over her body and set herself ablaze after a heated argument with her husband.

“She was first taken to Lalitpur District Hospital in critical condition but later referred to Jhansi Medical College as her condition worsened,” ASP Singh said.

In her statement to police, Aarti alleged that her husband refused to let her visit her parental home, which led her to take the extreme step.

The ASP added that no formal complaint has yet been lodged by the woman’s family. “Necessary action will be taken once a written complaint is received,” he said, adding that police personnel have been deployed to the hospital to investigate the case further.
