Dehradun: Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday to review the situation in Uttarkashi following the deadly cloudburst and flash floods that struck Dharali a day earlier. The Prime Minister inquired about the ongoing relief and rescue operations and assured the state of full support from the Centre.

The Chief Minister’s Office issued an official statement confirming the conversation, noting that PM Modi expressed deep concern over the loss and devastation caused by the sudden natural disaster. During the call, CM Dhami briefed the Prime Minister on the steps being taken to rescue stranded individuals and provide relief to the affected population.

“Despite persistent heavy rainfall in the region, rescue teams are working tirelessly in coordination with various agencies to reach those in need. Our focus is on saving lives and restoring essential services,” CM Dhami told the Prime Minister, according to the release.

PM Modi conveyed his solidarity with the people of Uttarakhand and appreciated the efforts of local authorities and rescue personnel on the ground. He assured the Chief Minister that all necessary assistance—whether logistical, financial, or manpower—would be made available by the central government.

The call comes amid ongoing search and rescue operations in Dharali, where flash floods washed away parts of the town, leaving four people confirmed dead and over 60 missing. The Indian Army, Air Force, and disaster response teams remain actively involved in efforts to locate and evacuate survivors.

With more rain expected in the coming days, the state government has urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain cautious and follow official advisories. Both the Centre and the state have pledged to continue working closely to ensure timely relief and support to those affected by the disaster.
