Jaipur: A 22-year-old medical student from Rajasthan, who suffered a brain stroke in Kazakhstan earlier this month, was airlifted to Jaipur on Monday evening for advanced treatment.

The student, Rahul Ghosalya, a resident of Shahpura in Jaipur district, has been pursuing his MBBS degree in Astana since 2021. He reportedly suffered a brain stroke on October 8 and had been on ventilator support at a local hospital in Kazakhstan for nearly two weeks.

An air ambulance carrying Rahul landed in Jaipur on Monday evening. He was immediately shifted to the Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital, where a special medical team and district administration officials had made prior arrangements for his transfer.

According to hospital authorities, Rahul has been admitted to the Medical ICU, and his treatment is being supervised by a team of doctors led by SMS Medical College Principal Dr. Deepak Maheshwari. The hospital has also constituted a four-member expert panel to oversee his care.

A special critical care ambulance and a medical escort team from SMS Hospital were deployed to ensure Rahul’s safe transfer from the airport to the hospital.

Rahul’s parents had earlier appealed to both the Central and Rajasthan governments through social media for assistance in bringing their son back to India. Their plea gained wide support online, and several social organizations stepped forward to facilitate his evacuation.

Hospital officials said Rahul’s condition remains serious but stable, and doctors are closely monitoring his neurological response and vital parameters.
