Panchkula: In a dramatic turn of events, the Panchkula Police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against former Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Mohammad Mustafa, his wife and ex-minister Razia Sultana, and several other family members in connection with the suspicious death of their son, Aqeel Akhtar.

The case, registered at the Mansa Devi Police Station, comes days after Aqeel was found dead in Panchkula on the night of October 16. Initially believed to be a drug overdose, the circumstances around his death have since taken a more sinister shape.

According to official sources, the FIR has been filed under Sections 103(1) and 61 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertain to murder and criminal conspiracy. Alongside Mustafa and Razia Sultana, Aqeel’s wife, daughter, and daughter-in-law have also been named in the complaint.

The action follows a formal complaint lodged by Shamsuddin, a neighbour of the family, who has alleged foul play in Aqeel’s death. In a shocking statement to the police, he accused Aqeel’s wife and father of being involved in an inappropriate relationship — a claim that also implicates Razia Sultana in a broader family conspiracy.

Adding weight to these allegations is a video that surfaced earlier this year, purportedly recorded by Aqeel on August 27. In the video, he accuses members of his family of plotting his murder and speaks about the alleged affair involving his wife and father.

Authorities have not disclosed whether any arrests have been made so far, but the case has sparked widespread attention due to the high-profile individuals involved. A senior official in Panchkula confirmed that the investigation is active and will consider all angles, including digital evidence and witness testimony.

While the family has maintained that Aqeel’s death was the result of a drug overdose, the emergence of prior threats and now an official complaint has intensified public scrutiny. Calls for a fair and thorough investigation have grown louder, especially considering the political stature of the accused.

As the inquiry proceeds, this case could have serious legal and political ramifications for one of Punjab’s most influential families. Further developments are awaited as the police continue to gather evidence and verify the claims.
