 Fire Erupts in Airport Cargo Section, Flight Operations Suspended

Dhaka [Bangladesh]: Flight operations at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka were suspended on Saturday after a fire broke out in the airport’s cargo area, officials said.

The blaze reportedly began near Gate 8 around 2:30 pm. Nine firefighting units were initially deployed to tackle the fire, with 15 additional units sent to assist, bdnews reported. Fire Service spokesperson Talha Bin Zasim later confirmed that 28 units were actively working to extinguish the flames, with further reinforcements en route.

A spokesperson for the airport assured, “All our aircraft are confirmed safe. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops,” according to The Daily Star.

The firefighting effort involves the Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority, the Fire Service, two fire units from the Bangladesh Air Force, and two platoons of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). Authorities reported no immediate casualties or significant damage, while the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
