Haridwar: A gruesome discovery in Haridwar’s Shyampur area has sparked a police investigation after a charred female body was found near a highway in Ghaziwali early Saturday morning. Authorities believe the victim may have been murdered and set ablaze in an attempt to erase her identity.
The body, severely burned and unrecognizable, was spotted by locals who quickly alerted the police. Law enforcement teams reached the scene and cordoned off the area for forensic examination. The body has since been sent for post-mortem to determine the cause and time of death.
Police Treating Case as Homicide
Initial observations suggest deliberate homicide, with officials indicating that the woman may have been killed elsewhere and her body dumped and burned along the highway during the night.
“The condition of the body indicates an attempt to destroy evidence. At this stage, we are treating it as a murder case,” said a senior police officer from the Shyampur police station.
Efforts to Identify the Victim
With no identification documents or belongings found at the scene, police are reviewing missing persons reports from Haridwar and adjoining districts to trace the woman’s identity. Teams have also begun scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas and toll booths along the highway for any leads.
“Our priority is to identify the victim. Once we have a name, it may help us understand the motive and lead us to the suspects,” said the officer.
Community in Shock
Residents in Ghaziwali expressed shock over the incident, as the area has not reported such violent crimes in recent months. Police have appealed to the public to come forward with any information related to the case or any recent sightings of suspicious activity in the area.
Investigation Ongoing
Forensic experts are assisting in the probe, and officials have hinted at the possibility of the crime being pre-meditated, given the effort taken to obscure the victim’s identity. Authorities have not ruled out connections to cases outside Uttarakhand and are coordinating with neighboring state police departments.
As the investigation deepens, police urge anyone with relevant information to contact the Shyampur police station.
