Chandigarh: Continuing its relentless campaign against drugs under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s “Yudh Nashian Virudh” mission, Punjab Police conducted extensive raids at 326 locations across the state on Friday. The operation led to the arrest of 59 drug smugglers and the registration of 57 FIRs, marking the 230th consecutive day of the anti-drug initiative.

With these arrests, the total number of drug smugglers apprehended during the 230-day drive has risen to 33,280. Police also seized 2.1 kilograms of heroin, 1,598 intoxicant tablets and capsules, and ₹3.17 lakh in drug money during the raids.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has directed senior officials—including Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners, and Senior Superintendents of Police—to intensify efforts to make Punjab a drug-free state. A five-member Cabinet Sub-Committee, led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, has been established to monitor and evaluate progress in the ongoing war against drugs.

Over 120 police teams comprising more than 1,000 personnel and supervised by 66 gazetted officers participated in Friday’s state-level operation. During the coordinated crackdown, police also interrogated 349 suspicious individuals.

Following the state’s three-pronged strategy of Enforcement, De-addiction, and Prevention (EDP), the Punjab Police persuaded 28 individuals to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment as part of the ‘De-addiction’ initiative.

The Punjab government’s intensified campaign continues to underscore its determination to dismantle drug networks, support rehabilitation, and restore public safety across the state.
