Father of Air India Pilot Seeks Supreme Court Probe into Ahmedabad Crash

New Delhi: Pushkaraj Sabharwal, father of Sumeet Sabharwal, the Pilot-in-Command of the Air India Dreamliner that crashed in Ahmedabad, has filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding a fair, transparent, and technically sound investigation into the tragic incident.

In his plea, Sabharwal contended that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) report unfairly placed the blame on the deceased pilots, including his son, while ignoring other potential technical and procedural causes of the crash. He argued that the investigation lacked depth and objectivity, as it relied heavily on pilot error without examining crucial engineering and operational factors.

The petitioner urged the apex court to direct an independent and expert-led probe to ensure accountability and prevent similar tragedies in the future.

The June 12 Air India crash in Ahmedabad resulted in the deaths of 265 people, including both pilots and several crew members. The catastrophe remains one of the deadliest aviation accidents in recent Indian history.
