Chandigarh: In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the death of senior Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, his wife, IAS officer Amneet P. Kumar, has formally given her consent for the post-mortem to be conducted.

Her decision follows assurances from the Union Territory (UT) Police that the investigation will be conducted with full fairness, transparency, and impartiality. Additionally, the Haryana government has pledged appropriate legal action if any wrongdoing is uncovered during the course of the inquiry.

In her statement, Amneet P. Kumar emphasized the importance of a timely forensic examination in the interest of justice. She noted that her consent is based on both the need for evidentiary clarity and the institutional commitments made by the authorities.

“In light of the guarantees provided by the UT Police for a fair and transparent probe, and with the Haryana government’s assurance to hold any guilty individuals accountable, I have decided to allow the post-mortem of Y Puran Kumar to proceed,” she said.

The examination is expected to be carried out under strict protocols — involving a duly appointed medical board, the presence of a ballistic specialist, and oversight by a magistrate. The entire procedure will be video recorded to ensure full accountability.

The late officer’s death has raised numerous questions, prompting widespread public and administrative attention. The post-mortem report is anticipated to play a critical role in clarifying the circumstances surrounding the case.

Authorities have yet to confirm an official timeline for the autopsy, but sources indicate the process may commence shortly under tight supervision.

As the investigation unfolds, both state and central agencies remain under public scrutiny, with calls for transparency and justice growing louder.
