Bathinda, Punjab, October 11, 2025: BJP MP from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, actress and politician Kangana Ranaut will personally appear in Bathinda District Court on October 27 for a high-profile defamation case. The court approved the request made by Kangana’s lawyers on Friday, scheduling her appearance at 2 PM.

The case was filed by Mahinder Kaur, wife of Labh Singh from Bahadargarh Jandian village, Bathinda, on January 4, 2021. The complaint alleges that Kangana made defamatory remarks about Mahinder Kaur during comments on the farmers’ protests in Delhi, sharing her photo on social media and suggesting she was paid to participate in the protests. At the time, Mahinder Kaur was 81 years old; she is now 85 and remains actively involved in agricultural activities.

The legal proceedings have been prolonged and complex. Kangana initially challenged the case in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which granted a temporary stay. In August 2025, the High Court dismissed her petition, allowing the District Court to proceed. A subsequent approach to the Supreme Court did not grant relief, leaving Kangana no choice but to appear in person.

The controversy surrounding Kangana intensified after an incident at Chandigarh Airport, where a CISF personnel reportedly slapped her in response to her comments on the farmers’ protests. Kangana’s remarks about elderly participants in the protests have repeatedly attracted public and media criticism.

Her scheduled court appearance on October 27 is expected to be a key moment in the ongoing defamation case, drawing widespread attention due to the high-profile status of both parties and the broader context of the farmers’ protests.
