Amritsar: Honeytrap cases are once again on the rise in Amritsar, with a recent shocking incident exposing a gang of three women and three men accused of blackmailing a young auto driver.
The case came to light when the victim, identified as Prabhadayal, received a call from a woman who asked him to pick her up for a visit to Cheharta Sahib Gurdwara. Upon reaching the address she provided, he was invited inside and offered water. Moments later, the door was locked from the inside.
According to the victim, the group of six forcibly recorded an objectionable video and then demanded money, threatening to leak the footage online. In a further attempt to extort money, the accused allegedly called the driver’s relatives, falsely claiming he had met with an accident and urgently required funds for treatment.
The auto driver stated that he has payment proof and screenshots of the money he transferred to the accused. He has filed a formal complaint with the police.
Police officials confirmed receiving the complaint, adding, “A detailed investigation is underway. Strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty.”
This case has once again highlighted the growing menace of honeytrap rackets in the region and the need for greater public awareness and vigilance.
