Amritsar: In a significant breakthrough, the Counter-Intelligence unit in Punjab’s Amritsar has dismantled a cross-border smuggling network allegedly operating with support from handlers based in Pakistan. Two individuals, identified as Gurjant Singh and Gurvel Singh — both residents of Tarn Taran — have been arrested in connection with the case.

The operation, driven by specific intelligence inputs, led to the seizure of 2.5 kilograms of heroin and five high-end pistols along with magazines. According to officials, the recovered weapons were intended for supply to criminal elements in Punjab, including gangsters, with the aim of escalating violence and illegal activities in the region.

Initial investigations suggest that the arrested duo was acting under instructions from a smuggler based in Pakistan. The operation points to a well-organized network designed to push narcotics and arms into India through the Punjab border, a pattern that security agencies have been increasingly focused on dismantling.

An FIR has been registered at Police Station SSOC (State Special Operations Cell), Amritsar. Authorities have launched a deeper probe to uncover the full scope of the network — including both the upstream suppliers and downstream recipients of the smuggled contraband.

The Punjab Police has reaffirmed its commitment to cracking down on narco-terrorism and organized crime. In a statement, officials emphasized that such operations are part of a broader strategy to ensure public safety and maintain law and order in the state.

Further arrests and recoveries are expected as the investigation progresses.
