Amritsar: In a significant breakthrough, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police have dismantled a cross-border arms and narcotics network allegedly linked to Pakistan. Five people have been arrested, with police recovering 12 pistols of .30 bore and 1.5 kilograms of heroin, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav announced on Thursday.

According to initial investigations, two of the accused, Joban Singh and Jashanpreet Singh, were directly in touch with Pakistan-based smugglers. Police said they coordinated the smuggling consignments using social media platforms. The arms and drugs were allegedly intended to escalate inter-gang rivalries within Punjab.

An FIR has been filed under provisions of the Arms Act and the NDPS Act at Police Station Gate Hakima in Amritsar. Officials confirmed that further investigation is underway to trace the wider network, including both backward and forward linkages.

The police action led to the seizure of a total of 12 pistols, along with live cartridges, and the recovery of 1.5 kg heroin. Authorities said the crackdown is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle cross-border syndicates involved in drug and weapon smuggling.
